Before I give you the link to the Kids Christmas Ornament Craft, let me tell you the whole story.

A Christmas Geography Class!

In my co-op geography classes, I do a special Christmas Around the World lesson right before Christmas break with a special kids Christmas craft.

And every year, the craft has been to decorate Christmas cookies.

I bring in plain cut-out cookies and lots of icing and sprinkles.  Which means each cookie is buried under MOUNDS of colored icing, with sprinkles everywhere…the cookie, the table, the floor, the kids.  It’s always been a great time!

The Problem with the Craft!

However…it started to be a bit of a problem  Not just that it took me several days to bake all the cookies, make all the icing, put it in decorating tubes, and get it all organized.

That in and of itself is not unusual–I do a lot of prep for my classes all the time.

The REAL problem was that after all the prep hours, kids were finishing decorating all their cookies in about 5 minutes! The return on time investment was terrible!!

I had too much empty class time, in spite of all the work.

So this year I knew I had to change gears.  I would bring in cookies to eat, but our project would be different.

The Solution: a Kids Christmas Ornament Craft

And what could be better than a Geography kids Christmas ornament craft?

And so the drawing, cutting, and gluing began until, viola… I had a Christmas Ornament for kids to make.

  1. Thank you so much for this ornament. We always make one each year but I haven’t really been able to think of a new one for this year.

I love that you have incorporated John 3:16 into the design. We have that verse hanging on the wall in our living room.

  2. Good morning! I've been trying to get the link to the ornaments to work, but it's not. It says "this XML file does not appear to have any style format" This craft looks perfect for ending or unit on Holidays Around The World.
