Junior High Geography

The long-anticipated Junior High geography by Let’s Go Geography is here! Year 1 for Grades 6-8 is now a reality.

Have you tried and failed with geography for Grades 6-8 in the past? Put all that behind you!

Research-Based Geography for Grades 6-8

This is the geography curriculum that will keep your 6-8th grader interested and motivated like none of the others. What makes it different?

Let’s Go Geography’s Junior High level is research-based. This means the student has a theme country each week to research on their own via books and/or the internet.

In other words, there is no textbook with facts to read and then spit back.

Instead, the student has decorated journaling pages with spaces for specific, and not-so-specific, information. These TWO journaling pages for each country are similar in concept to the journaling in the Grades 3-5 Discovery Packs by Let’s Go Geography, but Grades 6-8 have more detailed pages that require more input.

Students learn research skills while they learn geography. It’s a win-win.

Country Maps for Grades 6-8

PLUS, the Jr. High grades have a separate COUNTRY map worksheet each week. This is in addition to the continent maps, where they see the bigger picture.

The country maps take it one step further and zero in on the theme location, introducing all the unique features and landmarks of that part of the globe.

Of course, the Junior High geography also does weekly Glossary entries just like Grades 3-5, defining and illustrating a new geography term.

The Student Book has the Continent Maps, the Country Map worksheets, the Country Journaling, and the Glossary.

All four components work together for the win!

And More for Grades 6-8

With all of this, the Teacher Key is a must. It not only gives the answers (& suggested answers) for the journaling and maps, it also has the flags needed for each week, review materials, teaching helps, scheduling ideas, & more.

The Review Games provide fun learning in a competitive atmosphere. In a homeschool setting, the reviews can be used as quizzes or tests.

The Teacher Key also gives the classroom teacher schedules for each week for an hour-long class period, letting you know what to do when, how long to allow for each activity, and how to pull it all together.

What Do You Need?

And now for the biggest question of the hour…do you need to buy the basic Let’s Go Geography curriculum with it’s 32 downloadable lessons with this new Junior High resource? The basic curriculum provides foundational, factual information with photos and videos that are key to truly understanding a country and its culture. So, yes, we definitely recommend not missing that, especially the video clips. But truth be told, if money is tight, you can still use this resource without the visuals. It is not ideal, but it can be done.
